If you are friends with me on Facebook or in real life (I believe the kids say “IRL”), you would know that recently I was walking in my neighborhood and I found a little Cape Cod style house that I absolutely fell in love with.
I have always been someone who checked out houses. It’s why I love my neighborhood so much, I love looking at the houses and imagine living in them… one day. Key word: One day. Because at this time, I don’t need too much space. I do now wish I had a yard for the puppy sometimes but in terms of space, I am good in my spacious two-bedroom apartment. I always thought of having a house when I was married with kids. But then I met my dream house.
And suddenly, it was “Well, why not now?” I mean apart from the fact that it is not even remotely feasible right now for me. I thought, “Say I did have the money, I could work with a house of this size!” And then, I googled it. $1.2 million. The tiny house was over $1 million dollars.
I mean, I get it. It’s adorable and it’s actually bigger than it looks from the outside. It has a pool, a great loft home office set up, 2 bedrooms and a back guest house by the pool. And it’s in one of the most affluent neighborhoods in Los Angeles. But all of a sudden, I realized “one day” isn’t too far away and I need to start figuring out how I can make this happen soon.
So I started browsing (more than usual)… And realizing how many adorable little tiny houses there are out there. When I say tiny, all I really mean is that they look like miniature versions of bigger houses or they look tiny from the outside. I understand that size is relative and somewhat subjective, what is small to one person is large to another. Yes, we are still talking about houses. But, I have always been enamored by the mini-mansions on Orange Grove in Hollywood. The way they looked like miniature versions of the Father of the Bride house just made my life better.
Now, obviously tiny doesn’t equal cheap. I know it doesn’t really make sense if I was to miraculously get married and start a family but the idea of me and my pup having a house like this was just fueling me.
And now, I was looking at colorful tiny houses and cottages by the beach and suddenly I had an entire retirement plan that was completely different to what I had thought about before walking past my little dream house.
I mean, I don’t need much… but a little coastal beach house to retire in The Bahamas? That could work for me. I can see my Mother’s rolling her eyes at me now. I know, I know, a beach house in the Bahamas, maybe that’s a little much. But I’ll take one in Seaside, Florida too!
Anyway, here are some of the adorable little gems I found along the way on my path to self discovery. I may not me able to afford them anytime soon, but it inspired me to get on top of my life and realize I am an adult. And for now, that’s enough for me!
